Connectivity and Climate Change > Summary
Mobile UK has published a landmark report outlining how 5G and wider connectivity has a major role to play in accelerating the path to net zero.
5G, including technologies such as the Internet of Things, telematics, and existing mobile technologies, will help underpin efforts to reach net-zero and mitigate climate change. This report sets out the potential emissions reductions that are possible with the enhanced connectivity provided by 5G technologies, existing mobile networks and the Internet of Things.
The report focusses on how 5G can enable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in the energy, transport, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. While 5G will have a transformative impact across the entire economy, it is these sectors that are expected to particularly benefit from the next generation of mobile connectivity. They are also crucial to efforts to reach net zero, collectively accounting for around half of all the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions.
