Echoing industry concerns at a lack of pace by the Welsh Government on its Mobile Action Plan the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee has published a progress report that questions the part played by the plan in improving mobile connectivity.

The update calls on the Welsh Government to do more to tip the scales of commercial viability in favour of investment and makes further recommendations to the Welsh Government, many which align with industry suggestions, such as further planning reform and business rates reductions to make harder to reach areas more economically viable.

“The Committee’s report rightly outlines the need for further action in Wales to counter the particular challenges that make mobile infrastructure deployment in Wales more expensive and complex. The Mobile Action Plan was designed to offer solutions but progress has been limited. This report rightly raises concerns but also offers further recommendations for which the industry stands ready to play its part.”
