MobileUK, representing the UK’s leading mobile network operators, welcomes the government’s “Invest 2035: The UK's modern industrial strategy” consultation and has submitted its response on behalf of the UK's mobile network operators. We believe that digital technologies, particularly mobile connectivity, are essential to the UK’s future prosperity.

We urge the government to recognise the fundamental importance of mobile infrastructure. It’s not just a sub-sector, but a foundation upon which our economy and society can thrive. To realise its full potential, we need significant investment in 5G and beyond.

To achieve this, we recommend thefollowing:        

• Prioritise investment in mobile infrastructure: Streamlining regulations and allowing operators to retain spectrum fees for infrastructure development are crucial steps.
• Create a pro-business environment: A stable regulatory environment, competitive taxation, and reduced bureaucracy will encourage investment and innovation.
• Empower local authorities: Appointing “Digital Champions” can help local authorities facilitate mobile infrastructure deployment and maximise its benefits for their communities.

By investing in mobile connectivity, the UK can build a future where technology benefits everyone, everywhere.
