#MeetTheChampions – Cllr Lesley Wagland
5G is set to revolutionise the way not only we connect and communicate with each other, but also how machines connect to machines. Recognising the huge potential of this ground breaking technology, we meet Essex County Council’s Cllr Lesley Wagland, Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, to explain why Essex’s #Be5GSmart campaign was set up and what the local council aim to achieve with the campaign. She reflects on how enthusiastic Essex is about 5G and the potential the new technology has to improve digital connectivity.
As part of the #Be5GSmart campaign, Cllr Wagland explains that Essex County Council aim to bridge the digital divide in the local area, making mobile internet and broadband available and affordable. The campaign aims to raise awareness and drive demand for 5G networks so residents and business can also benefit from its capabilities.
Further to this, Cllr Lesley Wagland is asked how 5G and wider connectivity will help the council tackle digital inclusion? She explains that Essex County Council has “put digital at the heart of everything” they do as part of its Everyone’s Essex strategy. THIS strategy aims to ensure residents and businesses are not excluded from digital services due to financial circumstance or lack of equipment.
