Live Better Connected Podcast: What Does Mobile Connectivity Mean To A Crofter In The Outer Hebrides

The final podcast of our Better Connected Rural week features a local South Uist crofter, Donald Anderson. Our Director of Policy and Communications Gareth Elliott interviews Donald to get a better understanding of what local residents actually think about mobile connectivity and the infrastructure that powers it.

Donald explains that having more connectivity provides more options for work purposes, leisure and more. The infrastructure ensures that the connectivity in the local area is robust, supporting residents to work from home and more.

As well as supporting the working generation in the local area, mobile connectivity is also fundamental to futureproofing relationships for younger generations. During the episode Donald explains that through mobile connectivity his 7-year-old son is able to keep in touch with his close friend who lives a few miles away in Glasgow.

Donald explains that mobile infrastructure refutes that it is an eyesore but instead a taste of the future and the modern world that keeps the area connected. Donald closes the episode by explaining that “You need to have the infrastructure to have the signal to reap the benefits”.
