Live Better Connected Podcast: Local Council Perspectives Of Mobile Connectivity In Rural Areas

The Live Better Connected podcast series focusing on the need for connectivity in rural areas continues today. In the latest episode our Director of Policy and Communications, Gareth Elliott welcomes Paul Steele, Council Leader at Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar.

Paul joins Gareth to discuss what the installation of mobile infrastructure means to the local area of South Uist and its residents. Paul explains that connectivity is one of the key elements of living, allowing residents to connect to the outside world and maximising work opportunities on the island.

Mobile connectivity is already massively supporting those in local area, such as allowing remote appointments with specialist doctors, virtual maths tuition for students and more.

Interestingly, digital connectivity plays a significant role in maintaining the population in the local area. Paul Steele explains how connectivity enables individuals in South Uist to work within different sectors even those that are not physically present on the island.

Paul provides great insight into the way connectivity is being utilised in the rural area and to find out more watch the full podcast episode here, and watch Gareth’s recent vlog video to get a behind the scenes of his visit to South Uist.
