How Is Mobile Infrastructure Installed In Rural Areas? Notes From South Uist

As part of our rural themed week, our Director of Policy and Communications Gareth Elliott shares an insightful vlog exploring the second-largest island of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, South Uist.

In this vlog, Gareth explores South Uist with mobile network operator, Virgin Media O2 to oversee the installation of a much-needed mobile mast that will provide connectivity to the local area. Due to the remoteness of the area, this mast was required to be installed via a helicopter provided by SkyHook Helicopters, which Gareth was lucky enough to have the opportunity to ride in.

Watch the full video to find out more about what Gareth got up to during his trip and how exactly mobile infrastructure is installed in rural areas.

Following this vlog look out for our upcoming podcast episodes throughout the week. During Gareth’s trip to South Uist, he also had the opportunity to interview Local Council Leader Paul Steele, Pilot Guy Stephens and Local Resident Donald Anderson. Each of which will be available to view in our upcoming podcasts episodes this week.
