10.02.17 - Mobile UK calls for mobile coverage to be hard-wired into national and local strategic planning
Head of Policy and Communications Gareth Elliott comments on Mobile UK’s response to the National Infrastructure Commission’s Call for Evidence on its National Infrastructure Assessment:
“Mobile connectivity is critical to the nation’s productivity and it is important that it is hard-wired into national and local strategic planning.
“Mobile UK welcomes the National Infrastructure Commission’s National Infrastructure Assessment and the assertion that mobile is critical to the growth of the UK’s economy and that the Government must play an active role as a digital champion.
“However, changes across a broad range of policy areas, including planning, the business rates regime, access to public assets, and coordination across government still need to be considered if the UK is to meet its aspiration to be a world leading digital economy. It cannot be the sole responsibility of the communications providers but must be a partnership across all levels of government.
“Mobile UK stands ready to work with the NIC, national and devolved governments and other stakeholders to consider further necessary reform.”
